Reclaimed wood stairs can make the route between floors part of a home’s design story. In this Massachusetts renovation, the homeowner used reclaimed materials across the floors, stairs, and doors to create a modern rustic interior.
Wood treads and painted risers create contrast
The staircase pairs wood treads with light painted risers. Each material has a clear role: the wood provides warmth and variation, while the risers give the flight a clean, bright rhythm. The landing and nearby flooring help connect the stairs to the rest of the interior.
Plan the staircase as a complete assembly
Choosing a tread material is only one decision. The existing staircase, finished floor heights, handrail, and surrounding trim all affect the scope. A contractor should review the actual conditions before you commit to materials or assume an existing stair can simply receive a new surface.
Discuss the finished appearance at the bottom and top of the flight as well as along its length. These transitions are especially noticeable where the stair meets reclaimed flooring.
Reclaimed doors carry the theme into adjoining rooms
Doors contribute more than a wood tone. Panel patterns, glazing, hardware, and proportions all change the feel of an opening. Reclaimed doors may need individual fitting and preparation, so inspect their condition and dimensions before planning the installation.
The goal is a working door that also fits the design. Confirm how it will swing, latch, and meet the surrounding trim.
Keep the character, coordinate the details
Reclaimed materials do not need to look identical to belong together. This project uses painted finishes to give varied wood elements a common setting. Alvesco Construction can discuss stair renovations, reclaimed doors, and finish carpentry within your broader remodeling plan.
